Best Dog Food For Gastrointestinal Problems
Zignature Limited Ingredient Dog Foods
I did an in depth Zignature dog food review recently you can read if you’d like to know everything about this food, but I think they’re an excellent choice for pups with stomach problems! This food uses no chicken, which can be another common allergen for dogs. It’s very hard to find a dog food that does not use chicken or a by product of chicken in it, but this brand doesn’t use it in any of their flavors.
Their recipes are all limited ingredient dog foods which can be a problem for sensitive tummies. Instead these foods all focus on one particular ingredient per recipe so it’s easier to digest. You can choose from a wide variety of flavors that feature hypo allergenic ingredients, no dairy, no soy, no wheat, no corn, no chicken and no potatoes. Zignature Dog Food Reviews From Customers
I have a dog that has an extremely sensitive stomach. I purchased this zignature food based on a veterinarian’s recommendation, and is great! His stomach sensitivity has greatly improved, and he loves the food. Extremely high quality, no gluten food for your picky dogs. Would definitely recommend this to a friend. – Buck
This is the only food we can feed our Boxer. I’ve always had her on a grain-free diet, but when her stomach wouldn’t get better after she was placed on a boiled chicken and rice diet by her vet, we realized she was also allergic to poultry. Fast forward 6 months and she was itching nonstop. On top of that she had scratched herself raw in multiple spots and her hair was falling out in clumps. Neither the vet or I could figure out what was wrong with her. As a last ditch effort, I tried to figure out another ingredient that may be making her sick – potatoes. This was one of the only foods I could find that did not include potatoes, poultry or grain. Within a week of switching, her hair was growing back and you would have never known she was so ill a week beforehand. She has been on this food for 11 months and has never been happier or healthier! The best dog food for gastrointestinal problems! – Kaitlyn

Merrick is a leader in high quality dog food, and this recipe is no exception. It’s not only grain free but also limited ingredient to help pups with digestive troubles. This food contains a single protein source, which is lamb. If your dog has a problem with poultry then this one could be a winner. It’s free of soy, corn, wheat and gluten as well. Instead it contains sweet potatoes which seem to be easier for most dogs to digest. It also includes gluclosamine to aid in joint and hip support which is important for dogs who are getting on in years. Merrick Reviews From Customers
We have a Border collie cross and a Yellow lab. The lab has food allergies and licks her feet a lot. We started buying the Limited ingredient with no chicken or corn (which seems to cause her more allergy problems). She has been doing better with the Limited Ingredient line of dog food. It’s a good idea to not buy too much at a time because it gets old and stale or rancid if you buy too big of a bag. They go through the big bag though in about a month to six weeks. They get home made food too so this just supplements their other goodies. I really like this food line but just wish it wasn’t so pricey. Amazon does seem to usually have the best price compared to the local stores. It does have a re-sealable strip on the top of the bag so you don’t really need a closed container to store it in. – Sherry
We have a 7 year old Rotteiler/Lab mix and first started using Merrick dog food to compliment her mostly raw food diet (we used Sojos and beef) but she recently developed food allergies and we had to reexamine her diet. Our vet had us remove everything from her diet and wanted us to put her on a strict Salmon diet but we weren’t comfortable with both the brand and price of the food carried in office so we quickly purchased this after looking at the ingredients and finding them to be completely on par with what the vet could provide us. We had to keep our dog on a very restricted diet for 12 week and she had zero reactions while on this food (the reactions she developed included red paws, red ears, and repeated hematomas in her ears from repeated shaking that needed to be surgically drained). Yes this dog food has a high price tag but knowing the quality of ingredients our dog received made those 12 weeks much less stressful. We have since moved on to a different food now that we are outside of that 12 week window but wouldn’t hesitate to put her back on this if we needed to. The package arrived promptly, as described, and with the packaging intact. – Brittany
Blue Buffalo Basics Grain Free Limited Ingredient Dog Food
Blue Buffalo is a favorite dog food among pet parents for a good reason. Their high quality food routinely performs where others fail. This food focuses on one key protein which varies by recipes. They have quite a few varieties available so it should be easy to find one that’s agreeable to your pooch which come from high quality sources like turkey, lamb, duck and salmon. This food is made in the USA so no worries about contaminated foods from China either. This food does contain potatoes though which might not make it the best dog food for gastrointestinal problems if they have an intolerance for potatoes. While it might be fine for most dogs you should be aware of this ingredient.

Customer Blue Buffalo Basics Grain Free Limited Ingredient Dog Food Review
I have an 11 year-old pit bull and he has had sensitive stomach and skin issues as well as recurrent ear infections over the years. Almost since the day we had this baby flown out to us from California, he required frequent veterinary care for skin and ear infections. He was constantly on a regimen of antibiotics and steroids to no avail. Nothing we purchased helped (organic dog shampoos, holistic products, etc.). He threw up all the time. His skin was mushy, red, swollen, and oozed. Surgery was required for both of his ears because of the constant infections and shaking his head and he developed hematomas.
We were at our wit’s end. We tried countless dog foods that we thought were good quality…they certainly weren’t inexpensive. Because of the inundation of vet visits and mounting bills for him (we visited the vet no less than three times a month for years and it was never less than a few hundred dollars each visit), we changed vets and took him to Petsmart and bought a healthcare plan for him since that helped minimize the costs. They were no better at finding a solution for him either. In fact, he was misdiagnosed, sent home with a mass on his neck that they didn’t aspirate and it burst requiring emergency treatment. It was then that someone suggested putting him on a grain-free diet and Blue Buffalo was recommended. That same day a rep for the company happened to be in the store and gave us information, coupons, and helped us pick out a food that would suit his needs best. It has been nearly two years and we have had one visit to the vet less his vaccinations and that visit was unrelated to his diet. A dog’s natural diet shouldn’t have grain anyway so this is the best choice for us since we are unable to put him on the primal raw diet for now. I highly recommend this product. – Donna
