Zignature Dog Food Reviews: The Chicken Free Dog Food

I’m putting this one first on the list, because it’s the most interesting fact for a lot of pet parents. Chicken is a surprisingly common allergen among pups, but it’s used in a lot of dog food brands. Even foods that are stated as being flavors like beef or fish may also include chicken meal as a way to up the protein content. The reason for this being that chicken is commonly the cheapest available protein for dog manufacturers to use. This quickly becomes a problem if your doggy has a sensitivity to chicken.

It’s not just one recipe that’s chicken free either. It’s all of them. Zignature doesn’t use chicken in any of their flavors which I’m sure is quite refreshing for a worried pet parent with a sensitive pooch! They instead opt for high quality proteins from other sources that are less likely to cause a reaction like turkey, duck, fish, venison and even kangaroo. (Which is a surprisingly healthy protein.) This is also a limited ingredient dog food which means they focus on one key protein in each recipe. If your dog is prone to being intolerant of foods it’s typically much easier for them to digest a limited ingredient food than one that takes the everything meat related approach. In addition these foods are also free of wheat, corn, soy and potatoes which can also be problematic for sensitive pets. Let’s take a look at the ingredients.

Zignature Turkey Dog Food Ingredients List

Turkey, Turkey Meal, Peas, Pea Flour, Chickpeas, Sunflower Oil (preserved with Citric Acid), Pea Protein, Flaxseed, Natural Flavors, Dried Beet Pulp, Potassium Chloride, Calcium Chloride, Salt, Chlorine Chloride, Minerals (Zinc Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Cobalt Proteinate), Vitamins (Vitamin A, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, Niacin, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Thiamine Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vitamin B12), Blueberries, Carrots, Cranberries, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite. Naturally preserved with Mixed Tocopherols.

This is the ingredient list for the Zignature Turkey Dog Food Recipe. As you can see the first ingredient is turkey which is always a good sign. Ingredients are listed in order of which item is most prevalent in the food. The second ingredient is turkey meal, which is also great. If you’re not familiar with this item it may sound unnatural, but this is simply turkey that has been dehydrated. When a protein is turned into a meal it becomes much more protein rich as all liquid is removed. That means an equal amount of turkey meal will provide 4-5 times the nutritional value of turkey meat itself.

After that we also see some high quality vegetable matter which is important to provide the proper vitamins and nutrients for your dog. This is made up of high quality fruits and vegetables like peas, chickpeas, blueberries and carrots. Absent from the ingredients list are common allergens like wheat, corn, soy or potatoes which can be difficult for some pups to digest. Their substitutions are excellent for a dog with a sensitive stomach. In the section below you’ll see the guaranteed nutritional analysis for this food. It has an excellent protein and fat ratio. This food contains no chicken, eggs, soy, wheat, corn, potatoes, grain, gluten, or tapioca.

Best dog food! Took us 2 years to find a food that our yorkie could eat. Without this food she has EXPLOSIVE diarrhea…. no fun at all. She can actually eat all the different flavors they offer with no issues to her GI system. Highly recommend this to ANYONE and EVERYONE! Also, big thanks to AMAZON for selling this food. We moved from Atlanta, GA (where I could find the food all over the place) to a tiny town in Alabama (where no one for miles around sells it). THANK YOU!! – Zignature Dog Food Reviews by Lucy

Our Westie has had stomach problems for years. He has ulcers, which cause him to vomit whenever his stomach isn’t full, necessitating 3x daily feedings and 2x daily Pepcid pills. He is also allergic to chicken, which is in most dog foods. We switched to this food after my mom mentioned that it helped her dog’s stomach issues. I am so glad I switched!

The vomiting has all but disappeared and we have gone back to 2x daily feedings, though still with the Pepcid. We are getting a puppy in a couple weeks and this is the food he will go to immediately. When I thinkabout nearly four years of stomach troubles, I wish I had found this year’s ago, instead of a few months before our poor Westie was diagnosed with terminal cancer. At least his last month’s will be more comfortable, thanks to this food. – Zignature Dog Food Reviews by Susie
